Favorite New Music This Week
RIIZE’s second single album "Fame", a tight three-track release, marks a confident and compelling return for the 4th-gen group. While the title track does its job, it is the B-side "Something’s in the Water" that has everyone leaning in. The song reveals a completely different facet of RIIZE’s musical range, a surprising shift for a group best known for loud disco-pop anthems and hybrid, party-ready beats.
"Something’s in the Water" strips all of that away. The dreamy RnB track, crafted by four RnB and alternative artists, Elijah Waters, Josef Lamercier, Luke Titus, and Mike Irish, halts listeners in their steps. Instrumentally, it is simple, built on piano, guitar, synth, and drums. But it shines in its haunting, ethereal layering of vocals that linger long after the song ends.
Despite falling victim to K-pop’s growing habit of trimming tracks down to a two-minute runtime, "Something’s in the Water" stands as a testament to RIIZE’s evolving artistry and undeniable versatility.
