Best New Track: “Leaning Against The Wall” by Wolf Alice

Wolf Alice returns with their fourth studio album The Clearing. They haven’t dulled their edge one bit.

The shadow of 2021’s Blue Weekend still looms large (it’s hard to overstate the brilliance of “The Last Man On Earth”) and we knew following it was always going to be tough. But, they made it through the gloom and well into the sun. Here the rock fire still burns bright.

The pre-released singles “Bloom Baby Bloom” and “The Sofa” gave us contrasting impressions of the album. You might have expected the album to head in one direction, or another, but it actually goes both ways. The many colors of ‘70s soft-rock remain undiminished.

We have to point out the wondrous “Leaning Against The Wall” and all its intricacies and synths. You can really feel the excitement and love in this song. We might as well dance around our rooms.
