The Pokémon Company Condemns Use of Brand in ICE Video

The Pokémon Company International has officially stated it was not involved in a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) video that utilized the Pokémon anime’s theme song and footage. In a statement to Variety, the company confirmed that it was unaware of the video's creation and had not granted permission for the use of its intellectual property. The video, which has since been removed from the Homeland Security X account, featured a montage of arrests set to the "Pokémon" theme song, with its iconic lyric, “Gotta catch ’em all.”

The DHS video also used footage from the anime’s opening credits and included fake Pokémon trading cards with mugshots of people who were arrested. This is the second time this week that the government organization has used a brand or a person’s intellectual property without their knowledge. Comedian Theo Von also issued a statement after the DHS used one of his audio clips in a since-deleted video about deportations, requesting that they "send a check" and "keep me out of your ‘banger’ deportation videos.”

Best New Track: Gorgeous by Doja Cat

What do you think the worst crime is?

Vie is the fifth studio album by Doja Cat which naturally leads us back to the pop-rap style of Hot Pinkand Planet Her. We’re gonna point out “AAAH MEN!” before we go any further.

Scarlet saw Doja Cat stepping away from the glossy pop sheen in favor of something more rebellious—it’s like Vie just shrugs all that off and goes home. “Jealous Type” and “Couples Therapy” are all that 80s chrome gloss and synth tears. SZA returns on “Take Me Dancing” which is almost as good as “Kiss Me More.” Jack Antonoff produced a lot of these songs, actually. It’s Silly! Fun!

But we’re circling “Gorgeous” in a gold marker and glittering star. This song feels like the closest you can get to “Agora Hills” without actually being there. “We make a killing being so beautiful / it’s a crime to be gorgeous,” she sings. Carry us off, then.
