The 79th Cannes Film Festival ended with a major victory for Romanian cinema as Cristian Mungiu claimed the Palme d’Or for Fjord, a tense family drama starring Sebastian Stan and Renate Reinsve.

The film follows a couple attempting to start over in a remote Norwegian village, only for cultural tensions and conflicting beliefs to slowly unravel their idealized future. The win marks Mungiu’s second Palme d’Or, placing him among a select group of filmmakers to receive Cannes’ highest honor more than once.

This year’s ceremony also became a stage for political statements and historic milestones. Russian director Andrey Zvyagintsev earned the Grand Prize for Minotaur and used his speech to condemn violence under President Vladimir Putin.

Meanwhile, Rwandan filmmaker Marie-Clémentine Dusabejambo made history with Ben’Imana, becoming the first director from Rwanda to win the Caméra d’Or.

Elsewhere, acting prizes were shared among multiple performers, highlighting a year Cannes voters seemed determined to celebrate ensemble storytelling.

The night closed with a tribute to Barbra Streisand, who received an honorary Palme d’Or through a prerecorded message after health concerns prevented her from attending in person.

Huda Mustafa is officially stepping into her music era with the release of her debut single “Bad Girls,” arriving amid a whirlwind week of headlines surrounding her personal life.

The track and its accompanying music video dropped Friday, placing Mustafa alongside major pop releases from Olivia Rodrigo and Charli XCX on an unusually crowded release day. Despite the fierce competition, the former Love Island USA star appears determined to establish herself beyond reality television.

The release came just days after Mustafa and boyfriend Louis Russell confirmed they had ended their relationship “for the time being.” In a statement, Mustafa shared that she would now focus on motherhood, music, and “exciting opportunities ahead.”

“Bad Girls” marks Mustafa’s first major music release following months of controversy that kept her in the public eye. For instance, she recently denied allegations made in a restraining order filing connected to Russell’s ex-partner, insisting the claims were untrue and would be handled legally.

Now, with “Bad Girls” finally out, Mustafa appears focused on reshaping the narrative and launching a new chapter through music.

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce sit courtside Cavs-Knicks

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce sparks buzz after making a surprise courtside appearance during Game 3 of the Eastern Conference finals.

The high-profile couple attended the matchup between the Cleveland Cavaliers and New York Knicks at Rocket Arena, instantly drawing attention from fans the moment they arrived. Kelce, a Cleveland native, appeared especially invested in the game as the Cavaliers fought to avoid falling deeper into the series.

As the night went on, the pair quickly became one of the arena’s biggest attractions. During a tense fourth-quarter stretch, cameras cut to Swift and Kelce on the jumbotron, triggering loud cheers throughout the crowd. Kelce responded by hyping up fans in true sports fashion, showing off his Cavaliers gear before dramatically chugging a beer from his courtside seat.

Swift reacted with mock embarrassment, covering her mouth and laughing as the crowd erupted even louder.

The appearance marked yet another sports outing for the superstar couple, who have frequently supported each other publicly since beginning their relationship. Swift previously became a regular presence at Kansas City Chiefs games, while Kelce has long remained vocal about his loyalty to Cleveland sports teams.

A dramatic shooting near the White House triggered panic in downtown Washington on Saturday evening after a gunman opened fire near a security checkpoint before being killed in a confrontation with Secret Service agents.

Authorities identified the suspect as 21-year-old Nasire Best, who law enforcement sources said had prior interactions with both the Secret Service and local police. Officials also confirmed he had a documented history of mental health struggles and had previously attempted to approach the White House in 2025 before being detained and later treated at a psychiatric facility.

The incident unfolded shortly after 6 p.m. near the Eisenhower Executive Office Building when the suspect allegedly pulled a revolver from a bag and began firing toward officers stationed outside the White House perimeter. Secret Service agents immediately returned fire, fatally wounding the gunman.

Witnesses in the area described scenes of chaos as shots rang out, with nearby reporters and pedestrians running for cover.

One bystander was also injured during the exchange, though authorities have not released details about their condition. No law enforcement officers were hurt.

President Donald Trump was inside the White House at the time of the shooting but was not harmed. Following the incident, he praised federal agents for their “swift and professional action.”
