BLACKPINK Returns With ‘DEADLINE’ After Three-Year Hiatus

After more than three years, BLACKPINK has made its long-awaited full-group return. On Friday, the third-generation powerhouse released its new mini album “DEADLINE,” marking its first group project since 2022.

According to Hanteo Charts, “DEADLINE” recorded 1,461,785 physical copies sold on its first day, setting a new record for the highest first-day sales for a K-pop girl group.

The five-track release includes the pre-release single “Jump.” The title track “GO” features songwriting credits from the members alongside Chris Martin, and was produced by longtime collaborator Teddy Park and Cirkut.

While early reactions praise the project’s polished production and cohesive sound, some fans have questioned whether a five-track mini album feels sufficient following an extended hiatus for a senior group of BLACKPINK’s stature.

Jungkook Addresses Censorship and Death Threats in Deleted Weverse Live

During a recent Weverse live broadcast, Jungkook of BTS candidly addressed concerns about agency censorship and online hostility.

In the now-deleted 88-minute stream, Jungkook spoke about feeling restricted by his company, BigHit Music, under HYBE. He referenced wanting to discuss personal topics with ARMYs (BTS’ fandom), including quitting smoking, but expressed frustration over potential company intervention, “I wanted to be honest with ARMY, and if it weren’t for the company, I would have told everything,” the idol added.

“I want to talk about smoking. I don’t smoke now. But why can’t I talk about it? I’m 30 now,” he said, adding that he anticipated internal discussions following the broadcast, “the company will make a big fuss.”

Jungkook also touched on the pressures faced by idols compared to solo artists and briefly mentioned receiving death threats, noting that there are “a lot” of people who want to see him fall.

The live has since been removed from the platform.

Favorite New Music This Week

After more than three years without a group release, BLACKPINK returns with a sharper, more polished sound on “DEADLINE.”

The album thrives on contrast, seamlessly moving between explosive EDM drops, sleek hip-hop beats, and brooding mid-tempo moments that highlight the members’ vocal textures. Pre-release single “JUMP” pulses with kinetic, genre-blurring energy, while “GO” anchors the project with urgency, blending driving synths and a stadium-ready breakdown made for live chants.

What stands out is the balance: even at its most powerful, the album leaves room for softness, subtle melodies, restrained verses, and emotionally charged bridges showcase the group’s control and range.
