Kelly Clarkson Says 'American Idol' Lied about Her $1M Prize Money

During a candid segment on The Kelly Clarkson Show this Tuesday, the inaugural American Idol winner revealed that the life-changing prizes promised during her 2002 victory never actually materialized. While chatting with The Traitors star Rob Rausch about his own delayed winnings, Clarkson claimed the show "lied" about the touted $1 million grand prize. Instead of a cash windfall, she explained that the prize was reframed as a "$1 million investment" in her career. The revelation shocked fellow guest Daniel Radcliffe, as Clarkson recalled the frustration of being a 20-year-old with a "bashed-in" car she couldn't afford to fix, waiting for a payout that was essentially a recording budget.
The sting of the missing prizes apparently deepened during the show's second season. Clarkson shared a hilarious yet pointed memory of learning that Season 2 runner-up Clay Aiken and his mother were both gifted vehicles, despite her own request for a car being denied just a year prior. "I'm gonna actually kick your ass right now," she joked about her reaction to Aiken's news at the time.
The Pussycat Dolls Return as a Trio with New Single and Global Tour
After years of legal delays and pandemic-related setbacks, the Pussycat Dolls are back, this time as a trio. Nicole Scherzinger, Ashley Roberts, and Kimberly Wyatt have reunited with the high-energy new single “Club Song,” following a confidential settlement between Scherzinger and group founder Robin Antin that cleared the way for their return. Fresh off her award-winning run in Sunset Boulevard, Scherzinger is leading the massive PCD Forever world tour, launching in June and promising their signature high-octane choreography and “latex-clad” spectacle for fans around the world.
The 53-date tour will hit North America before heading to Europe in September, with a heavy run of shows across the UK and Ireland. While original members Jessica Sutta, Carmit Bachar, and Melody Thornton are sitting this tour out, the remaining trio is embracing the group’s “ever-changing” legacy. Alongside the live shows, fans can look forward to reissues of PCD and Doll Domination with previously unreleased tracks. With the group “always working on music,” Roberts said they’re excited to celebrate where they are now as women, while Scherzinger noted that the timing for this particular lineup finally feels “perfect.”

ICYMI:
Billie Eilish Set for Major Acting Debut in Sarah Polley’s ‘The Bell Jar’

Billie Eilish is poised to take her first leading role on the big screen. Eilish is in advanced talks to star as Esther Greenwood in a high-profile adaptation of Sylvia Plath’s seminal 1963 novel, The Bell Jar. The project is set to be directed by Oscar-winning Sarah Polley (Women Talking, Away From Her), with Focus Features nearing a deal to back and distribute the film. The semi-autobiographical story follows a young woman’s harrowing descent into mental illness and her struggle against the stifling societal pressures of the 1950s, themes that mirror Plath’s own life and have made the book a perennial bestseller for over sixty years.
The casting marks a significant pivot for Eilish, whose "dark pop" aesthetic and introspective, often haunting lyrics have long drawn comparisons to the literary depth of Plath’s work. While Eilish previously made a brief, acclaimed appearance in the series Swarm, this role would place her at the center of a major cinematic production. Although there are currently no formal plans for the singer to contribute to the film's soundtrack, the collaboration between Eilish's soulful sensibilities and Polley's sensitive directorial style has already made this one of the most anticipated prestige dramas of the 2026/2027 season.

Kanye West Ordered to Pay $140,000 in Malibu Mansion Renovation Lawsuit

A Los Angeles jury has ordered Kanye West to pay $140,000 to former handyman Tony Saxon following a bizarre 10-day trial centered on the rapper’s abandoned $57 million Malibu estate. Saxon, who originally sought $1.7 million, testified to harrowing working conditions, including sleeping on a mattress on a concrete floor and being asked to install a system to convert waste into drinking water, while West’s legal team dismissed him as an "unlicensed contractor" and "professional victim." Despite testimony from both West and his wife, Bianca Censori, and claims that the "architectural gem" was gutted to become a staircase-free, off-grid bunker, the jury settled on the lower damages figure plus legal fees. This verdict marks the first resolution in a wave of more than a dozen lawsuits currently facing the rapper from former employees.
Best New Track: “Porch Light” by Noah Kahan

The newest release from Noah Kahan is the second single from his upcoming album.
Kahan’s melancholy and nostalgia have always been part of the appeal and “Porch Light” leans right into both. We may actually like this one more than the last track.
The song appears to take place over a phone call. The other person refuses to take their medicine. They should be coming home, so he leaves the porch light on. But no one does. It holds onto that coldness and hurt the whole way through.
His delivery in the refrain — “but it’s cold and it’s cold and it’s cold” — is a standout. You get his solemn vocal tone paired with an ear-catching melody.
The album “The Great Divide” comes out April 26.
