Sabrina Carpenter Addresses Man's Best Friend Cover Backlash

In a recent interview with Variety, Sabrina Carpenter addressed the backlash over her album cover for Man’s Best Friend, which depicted her on her hands and knees with a man grabbing her hair. She explained that the image was intended as a metaphor for the emotional power dynamics she faced in past relationships, illustrating how women can feel both in control and not in control simultaneously.

While defending her artistic intent, Carpenter acknowledged the validity of public critique, stating, “It meant one thing to me and 100 things to other people.” She also responded to ongoing criticism of her evolving image since her Disney Channel days, asserting, “It’s not my fault that I got a job when I was 12 and you won’t let me evolve.”

Doctor Sentenced to 30 Months for Role in Matthew Perry Overdose

A California doctor, Dr. Salvador Plasencia, has been sentenced to 30 months in federal prison, becoming the first person to receive a sentence in the overdose death of Friends star Matthew Perry. Plasencia was one of five individuals charged in the federal investigation into the underground drug network that supplied Perry with ketamine, the dissociative anaesthetic found to be the cause of his death in 2023. The Santa Monica doctor previously pleaded guilty to four counts of distributing ketamine. U.S. District Judge Sherilyn Peace Garnett ordered the prison term along with a $5,600 fine, and Plasencia was immediately taken into federal custody following the sentencing decision.

The sentencing hearing was marked by emotional testimony from Perry’s family, who had asked for a lengthy sentence and called Plasencia the "most culpable." Perry’s mother, Suzanne Morrison, addressed the doctor directly in court, referencing text messages where Plasencia had referred to her son as a "moron," arguing that the doctor had failed to protect him despite his professional oath. Plasencia tearfully apologized to the family, stating, "I should have protected him... I'm just so sorry."

Best New Track: get him back! (Live From Glastonbury)

Olivia Rodrigo has made her Glastonbury live performance available on iTunes.

Rodrigo headlined the legendary festival earlier this summer where she invited Robert Smith to sing two of his classic hits. She sported a t-shirt that said: “You know all the words to ‘Just Like Heaven’… or do you?”—a line fans believe could hint at lyrics from her upcoming album. Rodrigo is currently dating English actor Louis Partridge…it’s little surprise she’d find inspiration in one of England’s most iconic singers.

The live album is available for purchase only on iTunes and isn’t on streaming yet. But the album includes her full Glastonbury set, including the songs she performed with Smith. Those two songs were made available on streaming platforms some time ago. So they won’t be getting our favorite-release crown.

If you’ve seen her live, you know Rodrigo at 22 can basically bend a crowd to her will. You couldn’t scroll past TikTok without seeing her set. Live, the bridge of “drivers license” is absolutely insane. A fun part of her set is when she tells the audience to go silent at the “Stop!” in “bad idea right?” and somehow, they actually do.

This week belongs to the live performance of “get him back!” where Rodrigo’s voice warps through a megaphone. As fun as the studio version already is, hearing it live, Rodrigo transforms it into an unmissable spectacle.
