Rooftop Proposal Leads to Arrest of Extreme-Climbing Couple at Empire State Building

The New York Police Department arrested a Russian couple known for high-altitude stunts after illegally scaling the spire of the Empire State Building for a marriage proposal. Angela Nikolau, 33, and Ivan Beerkus, 32, the subjects of the 2024 documentary Skywalkers: A Love Story, ascended to the absolute tip of the 1,454-foot landmark, where they unfurled a banner carrying a message of peace. Beerkus then presented an engagement ring to Nikolau, and the pair remained on the needle for approximately ten minutes before descending, where law enforcement officers immediately took them into custody.
According to law enforcement sources, preliminary investigations indicate the couple gained unauthorized access to the spire by bypassing security and entering through a restricted maintenance hatch on the 103rd floor. The building's management confirmed that the trespass did not endanger visitors or staff on the observation decks below, though a spokesperson noted that the public decks offer a far more "practical way" to stage a memorable proposal. Nikolau and Beerkus now face multiple criminal charges, including burglary, reckless endangerment, criminal mischief, criminal trespass, and disorderly conduct.
Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce Donate to Charities Ahead of Wedding
Ahead of their heavily rumored holiday weekend wedding in New York City, Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce have donated $26 million to 20 charities across the United States. While the official announcement made no mention of the impending nuptials, the massive philanthropic wave spans national organizations and local chapters in New York, Kansas City, Cleveland, Nashville, and Pennsylvania. The funds have been distributed among nine food banks, seven educational and musical youth programs, three children's hospitals, and the ASPCA.
Meanwhile, anticipation in Manhattan has reached a fever pitch following reports that city permits have closed streets around Madison Square Garden through July 4th for a "major celebration." Speculation has been further fueled by sightings of equipment trucks at the venue and several of Kelce's Kansas City Chiefs teammates booking nearby hotels. Although city officials have kept the exact details under wraps, the couple’s inner circle has famously bypassed signing NDAs, choosing instead to maintain a respectful silence as fans watch for confirmation over the weekend.

PlayStation to Phase Out Game Discs by 2028

Sony has announced that starting January 2028, all new PlayStation titles will move to a discless format. While physical copies will still be available at retail, they will only include digital download codes. This decision comes as consumer preferences shift towards digital distribution. The move follows Rockstar Games' announcement that Grand Theft Auto 6 will also release without a physical disc, sparking backlash from independent retailers and consumer rights advocates. Critics argue that eliminating physical media undermines players' rights to own, resell, or share their games. This concern is heightened by Sony’s recent controversy involving the removal of purchased StudioCanal films from users' digital libraries without compensation, due to an expired licensing agreement.
